In partnership with the Dermatology Student Interest Group (DSIG), the Student Outreach Clinic provides “Dermatology Days” to neighbors every six months to provide full body skin exams and monitor progress. The Clinic is also working with Eskenazi faculty to create referral forms to establish continuity of care and perform a skin biopsy if neighbors have a suspicious mole or lesion on skin exam.
“Unfortunately, underserved patient populations are at a higher risk of late stage melanomas due to multiple factors including lack of access to dermatology services," says Sara Garcia-Dehbozorgi, president of the DSIG. "Our goal is to provide education and increase access to these services to help change this.”
